I have to admit that I'm glad it's over. Christmas, although great for family's, is filled with stress and commercialism.

I'm not religious at all, but didn't this start off as a Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ? When did commercialism and the Jolly Fat Man start taking over???

Years ago, before the department stores had their death grip on society, you used to see Nativity Scenes on every second lawn...now, the world bows down to a very nice man who drives a sleigh drawn by eight (sometimes nine) flying reindeer, and the lawns are instead covered in light-up Santas, reindeers on the rooftops, and garish lightbulbs screaming from every window.

The same thing happened to Easter (the ressurection of Christ) with the bunny. Who decided that a bunny would make an acceptable replacement for the son of God? And why don't we celebrate Channukah with the same relish? It would make more sense in a way, you have eight days to draw out the celebrations...and then the jewish people wouldn't be left out! But, that is the nature of Christianity, to make outcasts. Not fair!

I have wanted for years to boycott Christmas, but I now have a neice who is five years old, and believes that Santa is not only real, but that the milk and cookies were eaten by said Fat Man. And as a result, she behaves exactly one day a year. If the coal myth were true, 99.343% of children would end up with fire starters in their stocking and wooden logs under the tree. But, commercialisn must be adhered to in these days, so we shrug, pat them on the head, chuckle, and spend our hard earned dollars on gifts that the children don't deserve. And then, when the child misbehaves on Christmas Day in front of the entire family, we shrug, say "They are just overexcited" and ignore the fact that they may in fact be suffering from a form of ADD.

I must admit, I have done the commercialism more than once, usually in the form of my giant inflatable snowman that I put on my balcony to lear down at the street. I also buy gifts, but this year I spent far less, because I compared my niece's actual behavior to what she should get for Christmas...what a money saver!!

Anyways, if you celebrate, then Happy Christmas, if not, good for you...STAY AWAY!
RRSPs in Canada

The time is coming for Canadians everywhere to scramble to their local financial institution to act responsible (and get some extra tax deductions). As an employee of a well liked and community responsible credit union in BC, I look to the next few months with something like dread, but also something like hope. RRSP season is hands down the busiest time of the year. A time where all else gets put on hold so that people can do their business with the seconds ticking down to the deadline.

It is a time of year when you can teach those who know nothing about RRSPs, and enlighten those that already have them.

You work hard for your money, so why shouldn't it do the same for you?

The first thing that you want to do is ask yourself three questions...
1) How much will I need when I retire? (keep inflation in mind, a million dollars may not be worth as much in 40 years)
2) How much should I be putting away to reach my goals? (Starting small may sound easier, but will it help you reach your goals in the long run?)
3) Where should I be putting my money in order to achieve these goals? What kind of investor are you? (Are you a risk taker or are you conservative?)

The answers will be different from person to person, and that's why the right plan, and talking to someone who knows how to find the right answers for you, is so important. You need a clear strategy that will work for you.

I am a risky investor. I'm willing to put my savings on the line to earn a potentially hihger return, because, even if I lose it, I have about 40 years to make it up. Investing is really only profitable if you are in it for the long run anyways. The way I see it, I have about 960 paychecks left, and if I want to reach my goal of one milllion dollars by age 65, and was in a very low risk product, I would have to put about $1000 every two weeks into it! As is, if my plan stays on track, and my return stays where it has been, I need only put about $200 every month! And, once I reach age 35, I shouldn't have to put any more money in, instead, the interest will compound and I can just sit back and watch my money grow! (Based on about 8% return per year)

And, another note, the earlier you start the more money you can earn! For example, if you started putting $2000.00 per year into an RRSP, you could potentially only do this for 8 years ($16,000 total deposit) and let the interest do the work, if you were to base it on the same 8%, you would end up with about $445,000 by age 65...that's $429,000 in just compounded interest!!!!!! Talk about free money! On the flip side, if you were to start later, say at age 27 and put the same $2000.00 per year in, you would have to deposit every year until age 65 to get $440,000 (the math is, you only earn $362,000 in interest, that's about $67,000 less free money........not to mention the fact that you had to put $62,000 more of your own personal money in there.)

Normally I wouldn't waste valuable Blog space for this type of thing, but I think it's important that everyone in Canada, young or getting there, knows what RRSPs can do for them.

It is a valuable service that the government provides to us. As an added incentive to saving for our retirment, the government gives us a tax deduction on the money that we save, and we don't get charged on the interest earned until we take it out after retirement, when we are in a lower tax bracket.

If you have any questions about your retirement savings plans, contact Westminster Savings Credit Union of BC toll free @ 1-877-506-0100 between January and March to make the most of your money!

Who doesn't want the government to pay them for once?????

549 hours 27 minutes and 16 seconds...
15 seconds....
14 seconds....

OK....the point is...I'm counting down the hours until my flight to Mexico. And yes, i can actually type that fast.... :P

I am so excited because this is the first time I've ever been to Mexico!! My boyfriend Geoff is coming (which I am stoked about, our first trip outside Canada!!!), my most awesemest guy friend Greg, and Geoff's good buddy Dave are along for the ride too.

If anyone has ever been to Puerto Vallarta before and you have some advice for me, post! Is there a restaurant that we have to go to? An activity that can't be missed? Something that we desperately need to pack? POST POST POST!!!

549 hours 22 minutes and 43 seconds...

so...far...away...can't...wait....ARGH!
Derka Derka

Now that that's out of the way, I can tell you about my Hallowe'en. :P

Lisa, Amelia and I all dressed up for work yesterday. Amelia wore a very cute litte purple antenna and some cute little purple wings. I wore all black with huge purple wings, and Lisa wore all black with huge ladybug wings. We were all fluttering around the office all day. Tons of fun.

Then, Lisa being the wicked awesome manager that she is...let me leave an hour early because I always go trick or treating with my niece Kayley. So, by 4:30PM I was at my sister's house and raring to head out into the blustering cold to rid people of their candy.

Kayley looked adorable in a pink and black witch costume, complete with hat and spider wand. My sister wore a black dress and tossed on some horns, some white hair spray and a pair of my wings (fire colours), and I continued on with my black and purple fairy.

We got tons of good feedback on our costumes from the neighborhood, the funniest of which was this little kid dressed as a monkey that yelled out, "You can take someone's eye out with those wings" Yep, made my night. Oh, and my sister and I ended up sharing a rather large bag of candy as well because we were trick or treating too...who says that big kids can't go out...?

Mmmmm....candy...more importantly...free candy....

I love Hallowe'en. I hope everyone had a fun and safe Hallowe'en.

Wow...thanks Amelia for pointing out that I SUCK! At least at keeping my blog up to date... :P

I have been keeping myself pretty busy lately. I just got back from a grueling 8 day family trip to Los Angeles...by grueling I mean...OH MY GOD do I NOT want to do that again....

Without going into too many details...the trip was a waste of my time, holidays, and money because I was either bored or annoyed the entire time. And to think, I could have used that $2000 towards the house that I'm buying with Geoff next year, not to mention the eight holiday days that I could have used to have random long weekends throughout the year...ARGH!

So much for the family bonding time...we spent more time proving why we shouldn't do family holidays than actually having one.

Work is going well, except for the fact that we are so slow that we have now resorted to talking about having one of our staff members walk along the road outside of our credit union and wave people down...

My house is pretty much ready for Hallowe'en, my favorite time of the year. It's a time where you can feel free to be someone other than yourself and of course...FREE CANDY!!!! For me, it's the ghoulish decorations that I'm allowed to randomly distribute throughout my apartment.

Well, I'm actually in the middle of planning out some interesting ways to save up money to buy my house next year...so Happy Ghoul Time to all, and to all a creepy night!!

Yeesh...

Ok, so I'm not so good at updating my blog...not like anyone reads it anyways...

So in less than two days, my family and I are on our way to California to visit with Mickey, Goofy and the Disney gang. I'm not so sure that I'm overly excited, considering I'm a bit old for cartoons.

I understand that we all wanted to go there because of my niece (Kayley, 4) but like 4 grown adults want to spend time hanging out with annoying people in oversized costumes for four days...

Sounds cynical and bitter, I know...but I have to admit, I'm a bit annoyed that my sister decided that she was the boss of the trip, and has stated that "We won't have time for that!" when my mother or I mention something that we want to do, such as visit Long Beach. Well guess what sis? Too damned bad. I can miss a day of Disney fun and hang out at a beach.

Maybe I'll come across Jamie (friend from New Orleans, see first blog or two) as she lives in California...but I doubt it...that would be funny though.

19 Days until trip #1 2007!!!

My family and I are going to San Diego and Disneyland in less than a month, then my friends and I are headed to Mexico!!

I really hate flying, I always end up sitting next to some fat guy with sweaty elbows, greasy hair and an itchy butt...not cool. When I flew back from New Orleans, I was sitting beside Chris, he definalty wasn't fat and sweaty, but to be honest, he still wasn't the greatest companion...still drunk from the final French Quarter night before, he made a few trips to the airplane's compact bathroom for an expulsion or two.

I know that Greg and I are sitting together to Mexico, because Geoff and Dave are on another flight, which is OK because Greg is small, and normally doesn't smell bad...not that I sniff him or anything, LOL! But I'm glad he's a smaller guy, I won't have to battle for elbow room!! Unless he reads this blog and decides he's going to fight me for it out of spite...wouldn't put it past him!! :P

I have no idea who I'm sitting with on the flights to and from San Diego, I'm travelling with my mom, sister, brother in law, and niece. I'm hoping that I get to sit with kayley (my niece) because she and I can have some cool fun while we're flying. I have tons of games that I can play with her to take her mind off of flying. Besides the fact that she's only four years old, so another elbow battle that I'll win by default! But, I'll probably end up sitting with my mom so that Tammy, Pat and Kayley can all sit together. And that's OK too, because mom doesn't like the window seat! :)

I'm still trying to prepare myself for the next flight. Things have definalty gone odd since the last time I flew...now I can't even pack backup toothpaste in my carry on! Stupid terrorists. Let's just make everyone's lives miserable becauase we all believe in the same thing but practise it differently...great idea...morons. Now I'm going to get to San Diego and they won't carry my brand of toothpaste in San Diego, and I'll have to spend $18.00 on a toothpaste tube that has the likeness of Donald Duck on it just so I can go out in public without frightening children with my smile. Stupid terrorists.

I really should take a look at the forecast for my trips so that I'm packing the right type of clothes...when I went to New Orleans, I overpacked so much!! I actually was crazy enough to bring a sweater!!! Ya...not doing that again, it took away from stuff that I could buy because I ran out of room!!!

Ah..oh well. I can always run around Disneyland naked...they don't still arrest people for that do they?

Budding Enterprise Indeed!!

I realize that many women out there will be outraged at our feminine "chicken fighting" scheme, but I really don't care. If there are still women out there making a living at stripping in clubs and selling themselves on the street, I can't wait to see what they do in a ring! I mean, I've seen many a cat fight at the bars and clubs that I attend, and these women could be animals during a real fight!

Of course, we would have to have training camps and ensure that all of the ladie's involved are aware of the risks that they will be accepting if they accept employment with the AK'ing Tournament. And of course, that all of the lovely ladies are in prime physical condition to compete. No one wants to see Bessy the sumo wrestler in a bra and panty set...well, OK there are men out there that like that...

Of course, we will have to contact a lawyer to ensure that we will be holding a legal business license, and always have first aid on the scene...but that's really secondary to this creative and fun idea...

Soon, we will introduce our championship trophy, which may, or may not have a beautifully sculped naked woman in a kicking pose...but I won't give away our secrets now...apparently the belt is taken...OK, now I'm just rambling...GINSU!!!

Move over WWE Raw, the AK is coming in, and you will watch as we rise in popularity and gain new viewers and fighters each week!
An idea was sparked as Amelia, Geoff and I watched the continuous choreographed violence at the film "The Protector" yesterday. That is one funny movie. I don't think it was meant to be, but the constant violence blended with the constant sound of bones breaking and the "hero" (the guy from Ong Bak) yelling "You took my elephants!" was enough to make Amelia and I crack up through the entire film.

Amelia and I are going to learn martial arts and make some extra cash on the weekends by holding fight matches in lingerie. Who knows, this brilliant idea may become our full time job. Athough, I can't speak for Amelia, but I think one fight per week is more than enough for me...I mean, I'm too pretty to bruise!! I know many men that would pay large sums of money to watch two hot chicks round house kick and jab around wearing nothing but a flimsy nightie. Of course, to make it more interesting, Amelia and I would have to learn different martial arts so that we aren't using the same moves. (I vote Amelia learns "Monkey Fighting" and I'll go with "Bonesnapper")

I mean, come on!! This would be a brilliant scheme to part stupid men from their money! (Marrying them works too I suppose, but this is more fun!) We could hold auditions for more hot chicks so that Amelia and I could take a few nights off from beating the snot out of each other, and eventually, move up to just holding and managing the tournaments, and not actually competing. Realistically, I think that I would enjoy watching much more than fighting...

If we were to go ahead with this plan, there would have to be some fight rules:

1) No biting (unless you are a monkey fighter, in which case you kind of have to)
2) No scratching (all fingernails will be cut to reduce "accidental" marring facial cuts)
3) Cussing is welcomed and encouraged, however, keep family out of it.
4) No hitting while opponent is down or not facing you, will result in immediate disqualification and suspension from a pre-determined number of events.
5) Only pre-approved attire is allowed. These will include, but are not limited to: matching bra and pantie sets, corset sets, school girl or nurses outfits, bra and chaps, and the occasional full nudity.
6) No stilettos. We want repeat fighters with all limbs unpunctured. Barefeet or ballerina slippers only (slippers are encouraged as they look really cool and sexy)
7) You will be required to fight in the occasional exhibition Jell-O or mud match
8) Hair is allowed to be used as a weapon
9) No studs, spikes, brass knuckles, or any other type of hitting enhancement
10) Other regulations will be introduced as the tournaments continue to provide safety and legal coverage for all involved.

I think we'll call it "Ladies' AK'ing Tournaments"

What do you think of our idea? Any thoughts, want to audition? Post me!!!

Geoff and I went to his best friend's wedding on Saturday, and I was constantly bombarded with the usual "so when are you two getting married?" question. My response was pretty standard...we're not really ready, and we won't force each other into something that makes us uncomfortable. But, due to my lightning fast reflexes, I caught the bouquet anyways :P
I'm not saying I don't want to marry Geoff. But at this point, we both have too much freedom. Not saying of course that we would lose freedom once we get married, but people do tend to lose a bit of their independance when they sign the marriage contract. I don't ever want to feel like I'm not in control of my life. And I don't want to try to control Geoff either.
We are different people, we react differently, shop differently, and we don't always understand each other. I wouldn't change him for anything, because I'm with him because of who he is, not who he could be.
My family may be against the idea, but I seriously think that the wedding day is a bit of a sham. It costs thousands of dollars to everyone involved...all for one day. If I had a choice, I would have a very private ceremony (immediate family and two or three very close friends) and then have a huge party afterwards, where no one had to try to dress up. Very casual, very fun.
I do want to marry Geoff, but to spend a years salary on a single day seems rather...obtuse...
I have been to some extravagent and expensive weddings, but I have always been more moved by the smaller weddings where there is more heart than wallet.

Ok, it's been a while since I've posted :( Sorry!
Not too much has been happening in the life of the Shanda...a whole lot of sitting at home, writing some of my book, and wondering when work is going to pick up!!!
All of us at work have been so bored that we are now replying on Buffy The Vampire Slayer to get us through parts of our day...thank god we have a TV in the lunch room! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE BUFFY! Just not in a gay way...because that's wrong and I love my boyfriend very much...sickos!!!
I got my new cell phone today, not that I needed a new one, but my old one was a bit dated (like my mom should own in instead of me) and the buttons were way to small to push while driving...and I really don't recommend squinting at your phone while driving down a highway...it can be dangerous...some people can't drive!!!
I'm sitting at my computer today, petting my siamese cat, Yoda, and trying to think of a good way to kill off a few bad guys in my novel, and nothing is coming to me...my imagination chooses today to take an extended lunch break...gee...thanks imagination!!!
So far, I'd have to say my story is doing pretty well. I've introduced the main character, and her future love interest. It's going to take some time, and only one of my friends is allowed to read it at all while I work on it, so I'm working only on mine and his feedback...and I'm a bit biased.
But, if I only ever publish one thing, this will be it. So keep an eye out in the next few years for a new vampire novel where the main character is a vampire elf. :)

I am a catastrophe on legs.

I can't seem to go more than a week without damaging my extremities lately!! My friends all think it's hilarious that I'm such a massive clutz!

A couple of weeks ago, you'll recall, I hurt myself playing baseball with my co-workers. Then on Saturday, while at a Staggette for my girlfriend, I twisted my ankle while dancing, but I was too drunk to notice, and I danced on it all night. Then, yesterday, I slammed my poor baby toe into my bed frame and actually caused it to bleed.

So, needless to say, I'm a hobbling freak!!

My boyfriend, Geoff, thinks it's funny that he's dating a walking time bomb. I told him that it's contagious and he's going to hurt himself next (now watch karma at work...) Mwahaha!! That'll teach him to mock!!

Anyways, I guess I'm going to take a few weeks off of activities that could result in further damage to my body!

I have created yet another character on WoW...I now have a Dwarf Priest.

I started off thinking that the horde side of this game is so much more fun. And my mind hasn't changed. I have been told by people that play that I have the oddest collection of characters on this game. Most people choose one side of the battle, I find that in order to see everything that the game holds, you really have to try both sides. I have tried every type of character (save trying each type with a different race) and so far, shaman is my favorite class.

Here is a list of my characters (so far...)

Alliance:
Lilita (17) Human Rogue (Kael'Thas)
Shimera (23) Human Mage (Kael'Thas)
Seriya (10) Dwarf Priest (Cenarion Circle)
Arlinaea (10) Night Elf Hunter (Gorgonash)
In the future: a Gnome named MissCarnage

Horde:
Shavida (55) Troll Shaman (Kael'Thas)
Xantippe (36) Undead Warlock (Kael'Thas)
Bigbuns (33) Tauren Druid (Kael'Thas)
Babybel (17) Troll Rogue (Kael'Thas)
Fightincow (8) Tauren Warrior (Kael'Thas)
In the future: an Orc named Killforfood

With all of the characters that I have, it's a wonder that I have time to concentrate on any one. Shavida is obviously my main character. I have spent more time and effort with her than all of the others combined. I really don't intend on creating any more characters at this point.

I think one of the things about on-line gaming that I have started to understand, is that, while it is fun and time consuming, that it all it should consume. I have had people tell me that they get out of bed, play, go to work, play, shower, play...where is the friends and family in there?

I realize that even as I say this, I'm thinking of which character I intend on playing tonight. Although, I can say that I am going to be stopping in at my mom's house to do some visiting before I head on to my boyfriend's house. Then, if all goes according to plan, my boyfriend and I will be logged on and playing WoW before 7pm.

As a hobby, it's pretty fun, but I can't see this lasting too long...I'm already drawing bored of living in the matrix.

Why do human beings kill for religious reasons??

Gods are defined as an omnipitent and powerful beings that watch over us and judge our rights and wrongs, and allows us the decisions and abilities to live our lives. Each version of a god has had this power. From the Greek and Roman gods that were responsible for the rising of the sun, the rain, the snowfall, death, birth, war, love...each God, from Buddha to Allah to the Christian God has the same attributes. From creation to destruction, and from forgiveness to Hell worthy trespasses.

What I fail to understand is the inability for human beings to understand that not everyone will believe what you believe. Belief is not a bad thing, zealotry is. When people believe something different than me, does that make them wrong? Not to me. Should people die for believing differently? Absolutely not. So why is it happening? Are we still living in a world where we cannot have free thinkers or individuals?

For example, I am an athiest, I don't beleive in an all knowing, all powerful God, but instead, I believe in evolution. I believe that Darwin was a smart guy, but not everyone believes that. Some want to attribute our existence to a God that made us out of nothing. Let there be light. And although I can't see this being a logical answer, I don't fault others for wanting to believe it. And I certainly don't want people to die to make them see my side of it. In fact, some of my best friends are religious, and I love them for having the strength to have that belief.

I can't say that I know why those people flew a plane into the towers on 9-11, but I know it was religiously motivated, and what true god out there would allow their followers to die? I know that the terrorists that took over those planes were proud that they could die for their beliefs, but they were most definately wrong to kill others. Especially those that may share the same beliefs??

Who was to know who would die when the planes crashed? Or who was in the building when it collapsed? How many people died terrified in those buildings, and had no idea what was happening to them? How many people shared the same religion as the killers?

If there is a Heaven, in any religion, then murder, for any reason, would prevent you from entrance, so you would either be dropped into the hotbox below, or left on Earth to wander forever. So what is the purpose of religious sacrifice if you are permanently banned from the afterlife that you are aiming for? There are those that thinks that their God speaks to them...I doubt that it's God, it's probably a short circuit in the cerebelum that makes them hear illogical voices.

Of course, depending on your religion...if you are Catholic, then all non catholics are going to Hell, if you are Baptist, then all non baptists are going to Hell, if you are Muslim...etc. etc. So, does that mean we are all headed to the hotbox? I am starting to truly believe that religion was a bad idea to start with. Since humans were introduced to the idea of higher beings, we have waged wars and mass genocide. If there is a God, he/she cries every day at our ignorance.

That's my serious rant for the month, I was totally saddened today to see that more soldiers were killed while overseas and away from their families. :(

PART THREE:
Most of the week in New Orleans was a bit of a blur. There was mass drinking, some body shots, lots of beads, and a little bit of annoyance with Chris (never travel with one person, you get tired and irritated with each other really fast)

We met an awesome couple that were from New Zealand, they were on this huge travel kick, so they were leaving New O to head to London or something like that. Another couple we met was gay men, flamboyant even...danced through the streets and took me and Chris to our first Drag Show. Another couple we didn't even learn their names, they were Chicago to us, and we were Vancouver to them.

We spent a lot of time in Margaritaville, they have great Mojitos. Listened to some music and chilled. We went to the market a few times, bought some gifts for people. We got caught in a monsoon type rain that was gone moments after it started falling. We went to the zoo and the aquarium. Wandered some cemetaries and took some pictures. Took a tram for the first time, and got tired of them really quickly. Went back to the pubs for more drinking. Ate at a fast food place called "Fat Burger" and ordered a beer with my massive burger. Fed some pidgeons. Went on one of those boats with the big red paddle wheel. Spent $15 US on a bottle of shampoo, because there was nothing else available.

Wow, I think that's about it. I'm sure there was more, but it all blended together to make one fast and happy holiday. All in all, we both had a great time, and although Chris was still drunk when we got on the plane, we made it home without too many incidents. :P
PART TWO:
Sunday morning, Chris and I woke up in our hotel room and groaned audibly at the screaming bells in our heads. They refused to quiet, so we went for breakfast to placate them.

We had coupons (I know, how lame) for a restaurant down the road from us that served grits, and Chris desperatley wanted to try grits, so we went there. They were air conditioned, and yet looked out onto the Quarter, so we could watch the people walking by. While Chris pondered the menu, I noticed a pretty blond girl a few tables over, sitting by herself, shaking like a leaf as she tried to eat her eggs and toast. So, being the proud polite Canadian that I am, I invited her to our table for the company.

Turns out, our new friend, Jamie, is a 20 year old from California, and she's bisexual. Now, I won't lie, I found this fascinating. How could a person want to have relationships with both genders? I have a hard enough time with the one! So we had ourselves some breakfast, ordered up a couple of beers to go and were on our way. Jamie stuck with us the entire day, which was cool, we went to Ripley's museum, bought some wacky clothes, and posed for a picture with an drug dealer. (He kind of walked into the picture and posed with us actually, but whatever)

Near the end of the night, we all went back to a pub that was closest to our hotel and got smashed. Chris and I had found out the night before that this particular pub was in fact a gay bar. I had no problems with that, don't have to fight off the gay men. So we drank and firted, and at one point (there are pictures, that's why I know) I was kissing Jamie...she was a good kisser, and she was promising to do all of these freaky things to me. But, I was tired, and not so interested in trying new things, so I went back to my hotel and fell asleep. When I woke up, Jamie was on her plane home, and Chris was raring to go on our first walking tour of the Garden District.

It was hot, there was houses and buildings, some lady broke a shoe, we took a lot of pictures, and then we were back in the pubs.
I've made it a mission that I'm going to take one trip per year so that I don't feel that I'm being weighed down by work and life in BC.

Last year, I went to New Orleans and had the time of my life. My friend Chris came with me, mostly because he is a bit of a ghoul, just like me. And it's a party town, and we both wanted to do ghost tours, drink a Hurricane, earn some beads, and walk with a cup of beer from pub to pub.

PART ONE:
We got to New Orleans at about 3pm, and before we had even left the airport, we were sweating like nobody's business. The temperature was sitting at about 42 degrees. I'm used to highs of about 30. I immediatly regretted packing jeans.

Our room was a dissapointment. The ad had claimed that it was "Air Conditioned". It had a ceiling fan. The beds were huge, but lumpy, and the shower had no pressure at all. But who cares, we weren't planning on spending a lot of time in there anyways! We were on the streets in the time it took us to shower, change, and unpack some essentials.

The French Quarter was totally packed. I had a few strings of beads around my neck before we got to the first pub! To be fair though, I didn't flash anyone the first night, they were just throwing them down from the balconys. So we got to the first place and immediatly ordered a Hurricane each. That's a drink that they only make in New Orleans, and they won't tell anyone whats in it. Then, while we did the random party wander, we were ticketed with "Party Pooper" tickets by some lady looking for a hand out. I pleeded not guilty and showed her my nearly empty big ass beer and walked away. I think Chris gave her some money though. :P

World of Warcraft? Way of Life??

So last night, being the huge geek that I am, I went home from a slow day at work, sat down at my computer, and promptly logged into WoW. I then played for an astonishing 6 hours straight, heading to bed when my eyes could no longer stay open without the use of toothpicks.

Six hours...you would think that I would at least be able to level my main character Shavida in that time, but no. I spent all my time farming (that means killing things to get a specific item) for a couple of those hours. Shavida (level 55 Troll Shaman) was killed spectacularily by a giant dinosaur in Un'Goro crater as I was killing oozes to try to get this pattern that I need for tribal Leatherworking, and then, once I ressurected her, she was promptly killed again by another dinosaur becuase she wasn't at full health. What a load of crap.

Then, on an impulse at about 10pm, I created a new character on a PVP server (player versus player) and deleted my other one. I was only at level nine, so it was easy enough to get my new character back up to par. But, I like this character better already, I deleted a rogue, and created a hunter. I already have two other rogues, so it was getting redundant :( I decided on a hunter because it's one of the only classes that I don't already have. I have a shaman, a paladin, 2 rogues, a warlock, a druid, a mage, and now a hunter. That leaves just the warrior and the priest, and I don't like those classes, so I'll probably never create one.

I think tonight, if I play at all (which I probably will, because Geoff is busy planning a bachelor party for his best friend) I am going to make it my mission to get Shavida at least to level 56, she's about half way there.

I hated WoW at first, mostly because my boyfriend played it without me, and I was getting bored of watching him play. But when I started my own character on his account, I was so thrilled by the hugeness of the game that I think I lost myself a bit in it. I am a huge fan of RPG games like the Final Fantasy's, so this was almost like the next step for me. Logical, and obsessive.

Man, I need to get out...I hear there is sunshine...seeing is believing...

OK, so here is Blog #1. I have never made one of these before, so until I get used to it, you'll probably be reading all about my escapades on my days off, but I think that's the point, isn't it?

To start off, let me tell you a bit about me. I was born in Naniamo, BC in 1980, on a rainy night in April. I am both a Taurus and an Aries sign (figure that one out!). I have a cat named Yoda who has been with me since he was a week old and he's now 12! I have an awesome boyfriend named Geoff that I have been with for about five years (some off and on in there in the first couple years). I have an awesome mom, wicked sister, cool dad, diva niece, and an angelic step mom. I currently work at a financial institustion in Cloverdale BC and I am working my way to my own corner office with a window of my very own! :P

Saturday - My co-workers and I entered a softball tournament at Softball City to help raise money for cancer research (the tournament raised about $5000). We all left straight from work and showed up on the ball field with about an hour of rest before we started out triple header!!

The first game was more of a warm up (that's my excuse for losing) Geoff (that's my boyfriend) and I missed the first few minutes becuase we were trying in vain to get the attention of the waiter or waitress in the grill upstairs so that we could eat! But we got there, and everyone was doing what they were supposed to. Well, kind of. There were people batting, pitching, throwing and catching. I wasn't really paying attention since I had already downed a few "adult only" beverages. We ended up losing the first game by a few runs.

The second game started pretty much right away, we had about 5 minutes of breathing time. they put me and Geoff's friend Dave in the line up and we were off. My first hit went straight to the short stop, but thankfully, he dropped it, so I was able to take first base. Then, after a few errors on the other teams side, I made it to third base where my manager offered me a concoction that burnt my throat. Then, a power hitter came up and I ran to home base, somehow tripping over my own feet and doing a very good impression of Superman as I flew through the air. I landed hard on my right knee and rolled onto my back to protect my face (apparently it's against the rules there to slide into base, but they don't require helmets??) so I lost some skin on my knees, and I have some road rash on my back. But, I was safe, and that's all that mattered. (Right?) I ended up playing the rest of game two with a sore knee, but my last at bat was awesome, I smoked that thing all the way out to the left fielder, and luck was with me, he couldn't hold on to it! So I took second base too. :P We ended up winning this game by a few runs.

Game Three I mostly sat out of, my knee was throbbing by this point, and I was trying to drown the pain in some Pina Colada Breezers, and it was working quite successfully right up until they asked me to come in and play first baseman again. Then, I had a full inning to semi-sober! We won game three by a landslide (22-8) so we go on to the next day. We drove Dave home and went back to my place to sleep. Although I didn't sleep much because I am a big wimp and everytime I moved, my knee rubbed on the sheets.

Sunday - Big day of NOTHING! Geoff and I went back to his place, did some of his laundry (he did, not me, I played on his laptop) then, we packed up his computer and headed to my place for some drastic Game dorking. Geoff and I both play World of Warcraft, an online RPG style game that has over 6 million players as of the beginning of this year, so I am a Sheep. Baaaa. I did some of my laundry (only one load, then I ran out of quarters!) I got my main character to level 55 (the highest level is 60) and got some new equipment for her (yes, I am a total geek, aware and accepting). I currently have seven active characters that I play on this game. I'm going to assume that you know all about this game and just tell you that my main character Shavida, is a Troll Shaman, and she kicks serious NPC butt! So that was pretty much Sunday in a nutshell...didn't do much else.
